I must admit that I find it difficult to understand how a manufacturer like Lexus can offer vehicles at the cutting edge of technology on one hand and vehicles that have not seen a complete redesign since the Jurassic era on the other, and still achieve success in both spheres.
Anyway, I'm not here to criticize, but rather to celebrate the fact that the Japanese manufacturer is offering us a new GX for 2024. It should be noted that the previous generation of the model arrived on the market in 2009, which is a true eternity in the automotive industry. To give you an idea, in 2009, Lexus was still offering new vehicles equipped with cassette players.
More imposing
The Lexus GX 2024 is characterized by a rather radical update in terms of aesthetics. The Japanese manufacturer's SUV is more imposing and square than ever. It has taken on the typical shape of large SUVs with enhanced off-road capabilities, such as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class or the Land Rover Defender, while still retaining its Lexus appearance with well-defined geometric shapes and very straight lines. In fact, it almost looks like a life-size toy, and that's something I really like. This is the new aesthetic signature of Toyota and Lexus, which have been hugely successful with it.
The interior is both refined and rugged in its design, thanks to a simple dashboard and an earthy color palette. Lexus has integrated a lot of technology into the cabin, starting with a huge 14-inch touchscreen for the multimedia system and a 12.3-inch digital dashboard. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included, which is pleasing because these connectivity technologies are often overlooked by major luxury brands. The GX 2024 also benefits from the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which includes some of the most advanced safety technologies on the market.
The Lexus GX 2024 will be available in 6 different versions: Signature, Premium, Luxe, Executive, Overtrail, and Overtrail+. The latter two will focus on optimized off-road capabilities, including 33-inch all-terrain tires. Additionally, the Japanese manufacturer's SUV features an intelligent four-wheel-drive system and a 3D multi-terrain monitor.
A new engine, but no hybrid version...
For 2024, the Japanese manufacturer's SUV swaps its archaic 4.6-liter V8 for a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that delivers 346 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Not only is it more powerful than the V8, but it also improves the GX's towing capacity, increasing it from 6,500 to 8,000 pounds in certain versions. This new engine is also paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
One thing's for sure, with such a bold appearance and sophisticated off-road driving elements, the Lexus GX 2024 promises to be the favorite luxury vehicle for adventure and safari enthusiasts.
