The Japanese automaker operates three plants on Canadian soil, all located in Ontario, specifically in Cambridge and Woodstock. These facilities employ more than 8,500 people and produce several models, including the Toyota RAV4, Lexus NX, and Lexus RX. In fact, the two-millionth Lexus RX built in Canada was recently celebrated.
Believe it or not, the Lexus RX has been assembled in Canada for more than 22 years. Production of the Japanese luxury SUV began back in 2003. Interestingly, Toyota’s Canadian plants are the only facilities in the world—outside of Japan—where two Lexus models are built at the same site.
Two million units is no small milestone. Of that total, more than 145,000 vehicles were assembled specifically for the Canadian market. What’s more, 94.2% of the Lexus RX models sold in Canada in 2024 were built in Ontario.
Just as Toyota is particularly well regarded among Canadians, the same can be said for its luxury division, Lexus. The RX has enjoyed consistent popularity in the local market thanks to its midsize footprint and versatile skill set. The Japanese automaker’s SUV is offered with four powertrain options, including two hybrid variants and a plug-in hybrid version.
For 2026, the RX starts at $64,028, placing it right in line with the segment average. The Lexus RX is known for its ride comfort, reliability, and low average fuel consumption. It’s a well-equipped model that still manages to turn heads despite its understated design. In short, it’s a vehicle I highly recommend when the time comes to shop for your next new vehicle.
